More about Jesus…
“More” – a four letter word that encompasses one’s desire for a greater quantity/additional amount of something – anything! Admittedly, there are many good, enjoyable things of which we would like more – time with family, rest, good health, meaningful relationships, exciting opportunities. Sometimes, though, the desire for more is over the top when it comes to possessions – the latest electronic device, fashion item, piece of décor for our home. But, what about our relationship with Jesus, our desire to know Him and be like Him? Do we want more?
The chorus of a song written in the ‘70’s by Bill & Gloria Gaither and Gary Paxton comes to mind. More of You, more of You. I’ve had it all but what I need – just more of You. Of things I’ve had my fill and yet I hunger still; empty and bare, Lord, … more of You. Nearly 2,000 years ago the apostle Paul, a man who had attained about everything possible in his day, wrote something similar: “I want to know Him and the power of His resurrection, sharing in the fellowship of His suffering … becoming like Him ….” (Ephesians 3:10)
Becoming like Him! Living a life of love, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, sacrifice, grace, peace …. A tall order; an impossible one for us. But wait! In chapter one of Ephesians, Paul also wrote to the Church:
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know … his incomparable great power for us who believe. That power is like the mighty working of his strength which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms ….” (Ephesians 1:19-20) Our Lord wants us to have more; He wants us to allow His power to work in and through us in this sin-darkened world. And, He is able to do for and through us even more than we could ever ask or imagine! (Ephesians 3:20)
Through our National Project this year, Great Commission Women want to see more hope, more healing, more victory, more light for young girls and women touched by our international workers – and by ourselves as well. We will give generously, we will pray, and we will reach out to make more a spiritual and life changing reality. But first, let’s be sure our hearts yearn for more of Him, for the effective recognition of His resurrection power which is sufficient for ALL we need for life and godliness.

Spirit of God, my teacher be, Showing the things of Christ to me.
More about Jesus: in His word, Holding communion with my Lord;
Hearing his voice in every line, Making each faithful saying mine.
